Pitcairn Island

Part of the wider Pitcairns island group (a group of four volcanic islands which also includes Henderson, Ducie and Oeno), Pitcairn Island is situated in the central South Pacific. Pitcairn is the only inhabited island of the four and has a notable maritime history due to mutineers from the HMS Bounty settling on the island. Rich, volcanic soil and tropical conditions make for lush plant life while the island’s isolation and lack of artificial light have gained it International Dark Sky Sanctuary Status (IDSS). Despite its modest size, there is plenty to explore, with some truly unique natural beauty spots. 

Our Pitcairn Island tour gives you the opportunity to explore the island at your choosing, taking in unique maritime history and idyllic natural wonders. After a 32 hour voyage, we’ll arrive at Pitcairn in the morning, transferring to land from Bounty Bay Docks, the location of the wreck of the HMS Bounty. We’ll transfer using the island’s famous longboats then embark for a steep walk up ‘The Hill of Difficulty’ to our homestay in Adamstown. Homestay organised activities over the following two days include quad bike tours, kayaking guided walking tours and snorkelling. The island’s signposted paths are also ideal for self-guided walks.

No trip to Pitcairn is complete without a visit to the island’s museum, a short walk from the public square in Adamstown. Here a local curator will talk you through ancient Polynesian artefacts and the Bounty Cannon, raised from Bounty Bay in 1997, as well as other pieces from naval and early settlement collections. There will also be opportunities to visit the grave of mutineer John Adams, hand-feed the island’s only Galapagos tortoise and swim in the stunning turquoise waters of the sea-carved St Paul’s Pool.
