Everybody knows about European countries like Spain and France, but what about Moldova? This former Soviet Republic is the least touristy country in Europe. Though that doesn't mean it isn't worth a visit. Delicious wine, scenic villages, and Eastern Orthodox churches are a few of Moldova's hidden gems. Let's not forget about Transnistria, the self-proclaimed country along the border with Ukraine. Though it is still part of Moldova, Transnistria has all the requirements for a nation—and a fascinating nation at that. It still has the Communist hammer and sickle on its flag!
We begin the journey with a train ride into Moldova's capital city, Chisinau. We will explore picturesque villages, a medieval cave monastery, and Cricova's underground wine city. We will then head to Transnistria, the breakaway state on the eastern edge of Moldova. Here we will watch the Victory Day parade and explore the capital city of Tiraspol.
Moldova is the perfect destination for anybody wanting a European trip away from the glitz and glamour of places like Paris. For any traveller seeking off-the-beaten-track destinations, Moldova and Transnistria are the places for you!
