• Arrive late into Asmara, Eritrea’s capital. Our driver will pick us up at the airport and transfer us to the hotel.
• Full-day tour of Keren, a city in the Eritrean highlands.
• We visit the silver and wood markets, a 19th-century fortress, the War Cemetery, and the ruins of the old Imperial Palace.
• Overnight in Keren.
• Before leaving Keren, we visit the camel markets to watch people buy and sell hundreds of camels.
• Return to the Eritrean capital and take a tour of the city. We visit many sites such as the Asmara Cathedral, the theatre, the Great Mosque of Asmara, and the famous Fiat Tagliero—this is a Futurist-style service station built in 1938 by an Italian engineer.
• Evening spent at leisure.
• After breakfast, depart for Massawa, a port city built atop two islands and connected to the mainland by a causeway.
• When Eritrea was an Italian colony, this city was the capital until 1897. We tour the old colonial part of Massawa and then check into our hotel.
• Overnight in Massawa.
• Begin our boat cruise of the Dahlak Archipelago—a chain of roughly 120 islands rich with wildlife.
• We stop on Madote and Disei Island, where you can go for nature walks, relax on the beach, or swim in the Red Sea.
• Head back to Massawa in the evening.
• Another tour of Massawa in the morning.
• Drive back to Asmara to stay overnight.
• Visit Qohaito, an ancient city in the Southern Debub region with vast picturesque canyons and ancient rock art from the 5th millennium BC.
• Return to Asmara in the evening.
• Tour ends today.
• Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
