Tour itinerary can be seen below.
• Arrive in the Europeanesque capital Algiers.
• Meet our guide at the airport and transfer to the hotel.
• Take the rest of the day to explore the city. Stroll through some charming neighbourhoods, enjoy dinner in a local restaurant, or check out the many monuments.
• Full day to tour around Algiers with our local guide.
• Our guide will show us the Palais de Rais, the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Martyrs' Monument, and the ancient passageways of the Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• Expect a European vibe. French influences are everywhere. One look at the French colonial architecture, and you might think you’re in Marseille!
• Overnight in Algiers.
• After a nourishing breakfast, we’ll travel to Cherchell and Tipaza.
• Observe the centuries-old practice of locals relaxing in the Roman forum, and enjoy the ocean breeze of these two cities on the sea.
• Return to Algiers for dinner.
• Overnight in the capital.
• Today we venture to Djémila: the finest Roman ruins in North Africa—perhaps the world. These are the most well-preserved Roman ruins built in a mountainous environment.
• Spend a few hours here taking in the mountain scenery, and getting up close and personal with the ruins. There are almost no other tourists around!
• After the ruins, we’ll drive to Constantine for dinner and to stay overnight.
• Half-day tour of Constantine. A fascinating city built around various spectacular gorges. Bridges crisscross these giant chasms, giving us the best views of Constantine’s old town and quaint architecture.
• In the afternoon, we fly south to Bechar. Then transfer to Taghit, an oasis surrounded by the Sahara Desert.
• Overnight in Taghit.
• Wake up to a classic Algerian breakfast in Taghit.
• Pay a visit to the abandoned old town.
• For the rest of the morning, we are out in the endless dunes of the Sahara Desert. Roll around in the sea of sand or take some cool pictures, it doesn’t matter what you do, just don’t forget to bring sun cream!
• In the afternoon, we can take a stroll through the bustling market of Taghit, or get a tan poolside at the hotel.
• Later in the evening, we head back out to the desert to catch the last rays of a Saharan sunset, followed by a late dinner on the dunes.
• Take a final tour of Taghit market and enjoy a bite of Algerian food.
• Return to Algiers, arriving around 17:00.
• Overnight in Algiers.
• Tour ends today. Depart for next destination.
• Option for an extension to Djanet, allowing us to dive even deeper into the sandy depths of Algeria.
• We will fly there at some point today. The exact departure time is subject to flight schedule which will be released later.
• After breakfast, set out for the Stone Forest of Tikoubaouine. These fascinating rock formations show that out of all the artists in the world, there is none quite like Mother Nature.
• Later in the evening, dinner and camp overnight in the desert—a perfect opportunity for some crystal clear stargazing.
• Visit the Guelta of Essendilene, a Garden of Eden-like natural spot in Tassili N'Ajjer National Park. Lunar-like rocks and desert gorges surround this haven. Don’t forget the rock art. Stunning drawings of various kinds are everywhere.
• Another dinner and overnight stay in the desert.
• Lunch in the desert near the 7,000-year-old rock carving, “The Crying Cow.”
• These engraved images show long-horned cattle with their heads bowed, and teardrops appearing to fall from each of the cows.
• In the afternoon, return to Djanet for a Tuareg tea ceremony and overnight stay.
• Return to Algiers. Exact flight times to be confirmed closer to departure.
• Overnight in Algiers.
• Here the tour ends. Transfer to the airport for flight home.
